Largemouth Bass, one of the most popular sport fish in Ohio. Diet consists of insects, tadpoles, frogs, and small fish. They do not readily accept commercial feed unless feed trained when small. Spawning begins mid-April to mid-June in 2-6 feet of water.
Sexually mature 10-12 inches, approx. 2 yrs. Old.

Bluegill, are very important and one of the most common species of fish in Ohio. Diet consists of zooplankton, insects, small invertebrates. They will consume commercial feed readily. Spawning is multiple times from May-August in 1-4 feet of water. They produce a multitude of offspring and are an important food source for predator fish. Sexually mature 4-6 inches approx. 1-2 yrs.

Hybrid Bluegill, are a cross between a green sunfish and bluegill. Offspring are mostly male, so they grow faster and get bigger than standard bluegill. Diet consists of zooplankton, insects, small invertebrates. They will consume commercial feed readily. Spawning habits are similar to bluegill but greatly reduced numbers. Sexually mature 4-6 inches approx. 1-2 yrs.

Redears,or Shellcrackers, this is another member of the bluegill family. Diet consists of insects, snails, mollusks. They are important for parasite control in a pond. They do not readily accept commercial feed. Spawning is normally once a year in May-June significantly less offspring than bluegill. Sexually mature 4-6 inches approx. 1-2 yrs.

Yellow Perch, or Lake Erie perch as they are commonly known in Ohio. The fillets are firm, white, and very tasty. Diet consists of zooplankton, insects, small fish, and will consume commercial feed if feed trained when small. Spawning occurs once in early spring from late March-April. Eggs are deposited over vegetation in a gelatinous ribbon. Sexually mature 6-8 inches approx. 1-2 yrs.

Channel Catfish, this is another very popular native fish in Ohio. Diet consists of almost anything, insects, invertebrates, plant life, and small fish. They will consume commercial feed readily with tremendous growth. They could reach two pounds in the first year depending on stocking size. They normally do not spawn in a pond unless adequate spawning structure is supplied.

Hybrid Striped Bass, also known as Wiper or Sunshine Bass, are a cross between a striped bass and a white bass. Diet consists of basically the same as largemouth bass but cannot consume as large of prey because of their smaller mouth. They will consume commercial feed readily. They could grow to two pounds the first year. These fish are sterile and do not reproduce.

Triploid Grass Carp or White Amur was introduced from
China as a natural way to control aquatic vegetation. These fish     are sterile and do not reproduce as required by state law.

Fathead Minnows, are stocked in ponds as a food source for predator fish. They will spawn from spring to late summer if substrate is available.
